Completed project: tea towels
Here’s the last batch of tea towels that I gave away last week:
I’m working on four more sets of 3 towels each for my family for Christmas… I’ll post pictures when they’re finished.

Pincushion challenge swap
I came home from my trip to Iowa for Thanksgiving to find that the package from my pincushion swap partner had arrived. I love it!!! The pincushion is so cute! Thanks Em!

I had a great Thanksgiving and I hope all of you did, too! My husband and I went to Iowa and visited both his family and mine. We had a great, although exhausting, trip. We came home with a very nice antique drop leaf table and a set of 6 chairs from my grandma. It looks beautiful in our dining room. There is one small piece of the veneer that needs to be glued back in place and a few tiny spots where the shiny finish have worn off but otherwise it is in excellent shape. It is so sturdy!

We got 4 of these bent plywood chairs, which I LOVE but my husband wants to pitch. They do need a little TLC and perhaps a coat of polyeurathane. Anyone have any advice about touching up chairs? Or perhaps some advice on how to get my flickr picture to not be sideways?!? (Yes, I did rotate it, but when I go to the “all sizes” link the picture is sideways.)

And we got one of each of these chairs:

My family tells me that these two were the “original” chairs… but since they are both different I’m betting that only one is original and the other is a replacement. My husband’s family tells me that the table is a Duncan Fife… I’ll have to do some research on that.
Our old dining room table (also from my grandma – how can one person have so many tables?!) is now the sewing table in our office. I FINALLY have my own little work area. yay! As you can see, right now it is super cluttered and not yet set up but I’ll be fixing that soon. Note the new pincushion
I’ve got to sign off now, but I’ll be posting a lot more this week. Stay tuned!!!
Completed project: odessa hat
I finished knitting a birthday present for one of my college friends. She’s getting an Odessa hat knit in lilac with some frosty white beads. It took quite a long time to knit. I learned that I’m not a big fan of stringing 150 beads before knitting, it’s a lot of work to move them every time you need a few more inches of yarn. But for this pattern its necessary to work like that, and I think the results are worth it. I tried not yarning-over (instead just picking up stitches on the next row) for the first row to avoid some of the gaps that I’ve seen in other Odessa hats, and I think it worked.

Completed project: tea towels
Earlier this year I embroidered a TON of tea towels to swap with my husband’s family at their Thanksgiving craft exchange. I used sublime stitching patterns for all of the towels. Here’s a set of the Hawaiian themed towels. I love them all so much I’m kinda sad to give them away, but I know they’ll be appreciated.

Completed project: pincushion swap
I’m going to assume that my pincushion swap made it to my swap partner by now… I sent it over a week ago so I think that it’s safe to post a picture of the swap now. Here’s a picture of the goods:

I included a handmade pincushion, needlebook, some pins with sculpey clay pinheads and three roughly fat-quarter sized pieces of fabric. The pincushion and needlebook are made with batik fabric left over from a quilt I made my husband.

WIP: ugly anklet socks
I have quite a bit of leftover yarn from the ugly socks, and I can’t let it go to waste. So I’m working on a pair of ugly toe-up anklets now. I’m using the universal sock pattern from knitty, and so far it’s working out great. I made one small mistake on the toe, but it’s barely noticeable. I’m using size 2 needles, which is the smallest I’ve ever used. They are knitting up a little bit slower than the last pair (which was knit on size 3 needles) but I think they will fit better and be even warmer. I hope to have enough yarn to do some picot edging around the ankle.

Completed project: seed packets
I bought an entire box of baby envelopes (2 1/4 x 3 1/2 inches) and have been struggling with what to do with them for a long time. I made some nifty gift enclosures last week. This week I made a ton of seed packets. I think they are super cute!
Completed project: knit ugly socks
I’ve finally finished the ugly socks! The toes are wonky and I had to fix what looked like a ladder in the gusset, but overall I’m happy with how they turned out. They are super warm!
