Sleeveless sweater
Well, sleeveless so far. I’ve been knitting the Crossover Cable sweater from Interweave Knits on-and-off since Thanksgiving. I’ve finished the body of the sweater, the neckline and part of one sleeve. Then I realized the sleeve was too small so the sweater is currently sleeveless. I hope to have the sleeves complete in time to wear the sweater before the end of winter.

More yarn!
Guess what came in the mail this week?!? No, it wasn’t the Publishers Clearing House check I’ve been waiting for. It was yarn.
I ordered 7 balls of Knitpicks Swish Superwash in Camel to make a Hemlock Ring blanket for my parents for Christmas.

Nearly finished socks
I just have to do a a few rounds of ribbing and bind off! I used Knitty’s universal toe-up pattern until I got to the leg section of the sock, then I used the Bellatrix pattern over 60 stitches. This is my first pair of socks done two at a time on one circular (Addi Turbo US1 42 inch) needle.

Wicked sweater – finished!
I finished this Wicked sweater the day after Thanksgiving. It used just 2 feet shy of 6 balls of superwash yarn from Knitpicks. I made a couple of mods to the patter – I knit a few rows on the sleeves in stockinette stitch, I did a crossover-cable pattern on the bottom of the sweater instead of the suggested seed stitch, and I did a few extra decreases for the waist and some increases for the hip.
I intended the sweater to be a few inches longer. I figured I would have enough yarn to make it longer since I didn’t make the pocket called for in the pattern. But it just didn’t work out that way. As I neared the end of the sixth ball of yarn, I remember looking and looking and looking for that “extra” ball of yarn that I should’ve had, because I have never, ever had to use all the yarn called for in a sweater pattern. I looked up my original Knitpicks order to see exactly how many balls of yarn I had ordered, and then counted the (un-woven-in) yarn ends in the sweater… alas, I had used all the yarn :/ Perhaps the pocket wasn’t figured into the yarn requirements? Maybe my gauge was off? Who knows. Although the fit is much more snug than the rest of my wardrobe I am really pleased with the end result.

Yarn acquisition
This is probably half of the yarn that I’ve accumulated in the last year or so. I’m going to knit as much of it as I can in the next year…
3 skeins of Knitpicks Gloss, destined to be another (hopefully larger than the first) Shetland Triangle shawl.
1 skein of Malabrigo lace weight yarn. Will probably grow up to be a scarf. Options are:
100g of Art Fibers Chutney. Aspires to be a Haruha scarf.
100g of Art Fibers Golden Chai. Also wants to be a scarf.
1 skein of Malabrigo worsted weight. I see a Foliage hat in its future.
1 skein of Trekking XXL. Will make a nice warm pair of socks.
1 skein of Lion Brand Magic Stripes. It’s going to be a pair of socks after I get my Knitpicks 40″ circular US2 needle that is currently on backorder :/
2 skeins of Regia. Will be another warm pair of socks.
2 skeins of Cervinia. Will be yet another warm pair of socks.
2 skeins of Panda cotton. More socks!
1 skein hemp yarn. Purpose TBD.
2 skeins of Knitpicks Palette, will be a pair of Anemoi mittens.
9 skeins of Wool of the Andes from Knitpicks. Will be a sweater.
1+ skeins of Knitpicks Gloss. Will make a really nice pair of socks.
2 skeins Panda Wool. Will be a pair of socks.
8 skeins of Lana Grossa Numero Uno Tweed. I have a gathered pullover in progress with this yarn.
Some assorted wool yarns, will soon become felted bowls.

Sew Inspired
This is my entry for the Amy Butler Sew Inspiring contest put on by Craft magazine. It’s a simple envelope clutch made from linen and Amy Butler fabrics and lined with cotton. The brown ribbon is elastic-y, it was part of the packaging for a fancy box of chocolates. I’ve never seen anything like it in stores, and I’m not sure where you can buy elastic ribbon like this… if anyone knows of a source please leave a comment and let me know, it’s great for button/loop closures like this!
I’m back!
My week-long break from blogging quickly turned into a long absence. I blame it on the following things:
- a shirt-making class that required a lot of homework, leaving not much time for other stuff
- miscellaneous craziness around the holidays
- long work weeks
- too many consecutive weekends out of town to make much progress on crafts (although the weekends away did give me a much-needed chance to catch up with friends and family)
- the lack of daylight here in Minnesota (the short days didn’t keep me from crafting, but they did keep me from taking decent pictures of the crafts I finished)
- my sewing machine being in the shop for over a month. It’s back now, though, and it works better than ever. If you live in the twin cities and are looking for someone to tune up your old mechanical sewing machine, let me know… I can recommend someone.
- we bought a Nintendo Wii
- we bought Super Paper Mario for Wii
- we bought Guitar Hero III for Wii
