Embroidery swap

Posted in embroidery at 11:28 am by carriebee

Last weekend I sketched out my design for the Wild Olive Stitch Swap. I found a free pattern at So September that was almost exactly what I had in mind. I’ve been using a water soluble Prismacolor pencil to sketch embroidery patterns, trace sewing patterns, etc. I found it at a local fabric store last year and it works so well I want to buy a bunch more so I’ll never run out. Unfortunately the store no longer stocks them so I’ll have to find a different source.

Robots + embroidery

A little robot embroidery for Isaac’s room. I got the transfers from Sublime Stitching.

I realized about halfway through the robot that I had 2 similar but different shades of gray and that I had been using them interchangeably. Oops! I fixed the mixup, and organized (and labeled!) all my floss in an ArtBin. Now I’m all set for the Wild Olive Stitch Swap!

Cupcake swap

Posted in embroidery, sewing at 11:04 am by carriebee

I participated in the Cupcake Love swap on swap bot a few weeks ago. I made a small tote (the tutorial I promised is in the works!), an embroidered flour sack towel and some cloth napkins. The flour sack towel is my own original design, and I’m extremely proud of the french knot sprinkles. Making french knots was a tricky skill for me to learn. The tote bag was super fun to make and I hope to make one for myself this summer. The cupcakes on the napkins were made using a cupcake-shaped paper punch, some freezer paper (for stencils) and Jacquard fabric paint. I will definitely be doing more freezer paper stencils in the future.

Completed project: tea towels

Earlier this year I embroidered a TON of tea towels to swap with my husband’s family at their Thanksgiving craft exchange. I used sublime stitching patterns for all of the towels. Here’s a set of the Hawaiian themed towels. I love them all so much I’m kinda sad to give them away, but I know they’ll be appreciated.

I’ve finished embroidering 17 flour sack towels with different designs from Sublime Stitching. The towels are all for my husband’s family’s craft exchange that takes place at Thanksgiving. Here’s one of my favorite designs:

Completed project: tote bag

Posted in completed, embroidery, sewing at 5:29 am by carriebee

This is an embroidered tote bag I made as a birthday present. There’s a cat on one side and a dog on the other, both are patterns from the Sublime Stitching embroidery kit I got for Christmas. While the fabric and floss for the project cost less than $4, it took about 8 hours of work. Hopefully the next embroidery project will go faster!!!
