Optimus Prime!

Posted in completed, paper at 2:19 pm by carriebee

I made my husband this paper Optimus Prime for VDay. It took an incredibly long time to make – I’m a little embarassed to say that it took me almost 4 hours. And I even neglected to attach his thighs, two wheels and smokestacks. And I just realized that his torso is upside down. The way he’s sitting makes me think he needs a little paper lazy-boy to recline in (or maybe a lawn chair!) and a beer can. I think that’s just part of his charm.

He’s supposed to actually be able to transform, but I am too afraid to try. I think I tied his limbs together too tightly to transform him into a semi without crushing him. If you want to make him, I would suggest using a blunt sewing needle (like one used for plastic canvas crafts or to weave in ends on a knitting project) to score the back of the cardstock for the folds. I have a bone folder, but it’s not very accurate. Tiny projects like this call for something more precise. I used three strands of embroidery floss and a teeny tiny sewing needle to attach his limbs.

Here you can see just how tiny he is – only about 5 inches tall! And totally defenseless against kitties…

CardBoy

Posted in paper at 6:39 pm by carriebee

I just finished constructing a CardBoy. I found a link to the pattern on the always inspiring Rag & Bone blog. He is super cute, and not too hard to put together. The eye and date panels were a little tricky, be sure to use a super-sharp exacto knife to cut them out and think about using a tiny hole punch to get nice round corners. Enjoy :)

Completed projects: matchbook notepads and ankle socks

Posted in completed, knitting, paper at 7:03 pm by carriebee

I just finished these super-simple matchbook notepads for my sister’s birthday present:

I’m hoping to design some sort of vintage matchbook cover for future matchbook notepads… but my skills with photoshop are very limited so that may be a long time coming.

I finished these ugly anklet socks over my Christmas vacation:

The socks were made with less than 100g of Lana Grossa yarn, plus a little bit of grey yarn for the heels.

Completed project: seed packets

Posted in completed, paper at 3:47 pm by carriebee

I bought an entire box of baby envelopes (2 1/4 x 3 1/2 inches) and have been struggling with what to do with them for a long time. I made some nifty gift enclosures last week. This week I made a ton of seed packets. I think they are super cute!

Completed projects: purse, notecards, stitch markers and etsy store!

Posted in beading, knitting, paper, sewing at 3:05 pm by carriebee

I’ve been meaning to do this all summer and I only just now got around to it. I made a purse using the pattern from tiny happy and it turned out really well. I used corduroy and a cotton print fabric. I ironed fleece interfacing to the cotton print to help the bag keep its shape.

I also printed out a bunch of wallet-size photographs I’ve taken on vacation and pasted them onto notecards. This Buddha one is my favorite. IMG_2534I also finished one set of stitch markers, with more to come soon. I love the triangle beads!
